Dedicated to the Artist: Kit Semmes

The paintings you see throughout our website are the work of former Resident, Katherine “Kit” Semmes.

Ms. Semmes studied art at Tulane University, New Orleans, LA, American University, Washington, DC and the Art Students League in New York City. As the daughter, then wife of a Naval Officer, she traveled extensively and resided abroad. Out of necessity, her early paintings were travel sketches, hence watercolor.

As a resident of Seventy Five State Street, Kit was a vibrant, active woman that inspired many and intrigued many more. She never lost her passion for painting. While residing at Seventy five State Street, she had exhibits in Portland and Center Sandwich, NH galleries. Her beloved farm house was in Center Sandwich, NH.

Kit taught us that you’re never too old to be enthusiastic and just go for it!
